Olympic Stardom!

Girdwood 2020 recognizes one of the factors in creating a world class resort is the quality of athletes that are produced there. With this in mind, Girdwood 2020 created the Go for the Gold Fund, in an effort to assist budding athletes with  the high costs of competing in the Olympics.

Alaska has produced at least 57 Olympians

•            Our Olympians have brought home 16 medals

  • 8 gold
  • 3 silver
  • 5 bronze

•            10 summer medals/6 winter medals

•            Four communities have produced the majority of medalists

  • Anchorage. Girdwood, Eagle River and Juneau

•            16 summer Olympians

  • 3 each in track, rowing, basketball and trapshooting
  • 2 in rifle
  • 1 each in yachting and women’s wrestling

•            41 winter Olympians

  • at least 25 cross-country skiers
